History is written by the victors. The Battle of Bosworth Field, the final battle of the War of the Roses, was fought on this day in 1485. Richard III died in the battle and the Tudors took the throne of England. Vilified by the likes of Sir Thomas More and Shakespeare, Richard III’s body was lost for centuries. His remains were rediscovered under a parking lot in Leicester in 2012. A Stephen Frears film inspired by the search for and unearthing of Richard III’s grave was released last year.
