On the Lighter Side

A metal monolith was sighted in a remote part of Utah on November 18. The “secret” location was identified within days by online trackers. The estate of the late sculptor John McCrackin says it may be one of his works, although he was dead for several years before the piece first appeared on Google Earth. Then the monolith vanished last Saturday, adding another layer of mystery to the story.

M&A Upswing

As expected, M&A activity is on the rise in multiple sectors of the economy. PNC is acquiring the US assets of Spain’s BBVA bank. Home Depot is buying former subsidiary HD Supply. After a year of blockbuster books, Simon & Schuster will be sold to Penguin Random House. Food brands have opened their wallets, too. Utz will pay nearly $500 million for tortilla brand On the Border, and spice maker McCormick is spending $800 million to add a hot sauce to its’ product line.
