Does your filing meet the Bare Necessities?

The heirs of Terry Gilkyson, the musician who wrote several songs for Disney’s 1967 animated film The Jungle Book, are seeking royalties for the mechanical reproduction of Bare Necessities. Disney had been successful in the lower court, but last week, in an unpublished decision, the California Court of Appeals determined that the doctrine of continuous accrual will allow claims to move forward for the four years preceding the filing of the heirs’ complaint. The song is reported to be included in the live action version of the film set for release in April 2016.
