Have you assessed your class action risks lately?

Not all class actions receive widespread attention. However, Krispy Kreme has experienced two such filings in 2016. Earlier this year, when Krispy Kreme decided to go private as part of its acquisition by a German firm, a shareholder filed a class action challenging the transaction. Settlement of the matter was announced at the end of October. Less than two weeks later, the company faced a new class action filed on behalf of customers unhappy with the filling in some of the company’s donuts.

Whether your company faces a class action threat from internal or external sources, consider adding Asterion’s experienced financial consultants to your team.

Are there gray areas in your estate plan?

The year before children’s author Maurice Sendak died, a mural he’d painted on the wall of an apartment for the children of friends was moved from New York City to a gallery of the Rosenbach Museum in Philadelphia. Great care and expense was expended in creating what was anticipated to be the mural’s permanent home. After the author’s death in 2012, a dispute arose over which of the books in his extensive collection should be retained by the Rosenbach and which turned over to his foundation in Connecticut. The matter was settled this month in the foundation’s favor. Meanwhile, the mural was moved again earlier this year to the Free Library of Philadelphia’s newest branch at Broad and Morris Streets.

The provisions of even well-drawn estate plans can be subject to challenge. If you are involved in an estate dispute that requires a forensic analysis, contact the experts at Asterion for assistance.
